God’s Big Story is the amazing true tale of God’s restoration of shalom (wholeness) from the brokenness that sin has created. Brokenness is evident everywhere – in our relationships with God, with other people, with the world around us and with ourselves. After God’s very good creation was damaged by sin, he has lovingly committed himself to this task of restoration – a task that will be completed at the coming of His New Creation. The wonder is that God invites us – and the children we serve – to be participants in this outworking of His redemptive plan.
Participants at the GCF Leadership Experience (LE) residential school held recently in Sth Africa, looked at God’s Big Story as part of their 5 week course. One participant shared: “Understanding this changed my life at LE. It reminds us as leaders of the task God has called us to. It reawakened the desire to take responsibility to use our gifts and talents to fulfill God’s greater purpose for our lives as ministry leaders. It heightened awareness of the importance of spending time to deepen my relationship with God: reading, reflecting, listening and responding to Him. It offered an in-depth understanding of God’s intention for His people including children, to experience Shalom (wholeness) in every aspect of life so that they can enjoy ‘life to the full’. As leaders, we follow Jesus’ example by caring for all the needs of the children he loves.” We are part of God’s big story and so are children – but what part will we and they play in it?
