Computer Kids in Kampala

Recently, Edwin and his team in Kampala, Uganda launched a computer program for community children. Their goal was to give children an opportunity to learn how to use a computer for free. Edwin wrote: “We used (the) KidsHubs computer lessons. KidsHubs is a free global program that helps reach out to and mentor children. This is an opportunity, to break through children (in our) community by introducing Jesus Christ in a different way…with the support of the community itself.”

A team in South Asia have also had so much success running computer Hubs that they have written more lessons that they intend to run this Summer holidays. Just another example of Active Discipleship. People like us passing on their skills, in this case in computing, while sharing Jesus with children.

Paraplegic Boy finds Hope

ShahidShahid was born paralysed from birth unable to use his legs. From a poor urban area in South Asia his family cannot afford a wheelchair for him. Shahid felt he never had a future with no hope of meaningful employment. A Computer KidsHub run in his neighbourhood changed all that. “Suddenly he saw a future for himself working in IT – he had hope!” enthused his KidsHub leader. The boy attended a series of KidsHub sessions on the basics of computing. For him and the many who attended they had never touched a laptop before. The leader was excited that the computer sessions also gave them an opportunity to disciple these children, as they were not from Christian backgrounds. He is excited to follow up the young boy and see his computing skills built upon and his friendship with Jesus too.

Liberian Orphans’ Computer Camp

A 5 day KidsHub camp was held in Monrovia, Liberia in August.  36 orphans learnt about computers and discipleship in Jesus. The KidsHubs computer sessions were used by an enthusiastic female leader who has a passion for computers. Meanwhile the team in Monrovia are restarting plans for KidsHubTV now things are settling down after the Ebola outbreak. Pray for them.

In South Asia a dedicated team have been running Computer KidsHubs in 2 regions with 549 children involved. They have made use of the introductory Computers sessions on KidsHubs and then added touch-typing using Bible passages. They are looking to create more sessions on how to use Powerpoint. Go team!
