Children in Kampala, Uganda gathered in November for a special Children’s Gala for Hope. Edwin who works with children in his hometown said the annual Gala day is “a way of reaching out to children in schools and communities. Making Jesus famous in a creative way. This year our focus was child violence in schools. We trained children about violence and then…children had to do presentations on what they learnt in the group sessions.”
The Gala day is an annual children’s event organized by a number of organisations and companies where culture and religion are respected and celebrated. Edwin stated, “The gala offers children, some for the first time in their lives, a direct experience of what it means to live in unity, peace, love and care. Many of the children who attend have experienced extreme poverty, religious persecution, child labour, violence, abuse and neglect.”
The goal of the event for all children is that they might learn life skills, experience care, love and a space to heal and share their stories. A place to be heard, empowered and make friends.
